Nominated Innovations

1,000 innovative clean energy solutions and > 150 framework enablers with the potential to deliver more than twelve gigatonnes of avoided emissions by 2030.

These assessments are based on a basic avoided emission assessment. The overall concept of avoided emissions is that a solution (product or service) enables the same function to be performed with significantly less GHG emissions. The method of measuring avoided emissions, is to compare a baseline scenario without the enabling solution, with a scenario using the enabling solution; whereby the baseline represents the ‘business as usual’ (BAU) scenario.

These assessments are based on the framework document: The Avoided Emissions Framework (AEF) from September 2020.

SR BIN

SR BIN wrote: From plastic, polythene to metal and even paper the fmcg sector produces far more packaging than is currently being recycled. Due to complex layering, recyclers are limited in their capacity to recycle while consumers fail to support recycling due to lack of infrastructure. Encore offers both the technology, tools and software to connect all these players and bring them on to a common stage by giving packaging waste a new face technology that converts it back to pack, bottle or can. We offer the technology as well as tools such as intelligent waste collection bins and software for brands and recyclers to re-calibrate their current manufacturing process to convert waste back into standardized raw materials... Make insect farming simple

FreezeM wrote: Insects have the potential of becoming a central resource in the feed industry. But in order to replace traditional feed ingredients such as fishmeal, they must be produced at an industrial scale with high stability and quality. Currently, each insect farm has to maintain the entire life cycle internally in order to supply its own demand for eggs. This process is inefficient and costly, making it very difficult to increase the production scale. Our product is viable frozen insect eggs. Enabling global plastic recycling

PlasTell wrote: The numerous types of visually identical but chemically different plastics must be separated and recycled separately. Many developed countries use industrial-scale automatic sorting machines, however their high capital cost and infrastructural requirements prohibit their use in developing countries. Instead, developing countries make use of numerous small manual sorting facilities distributed around the country which are extremely limited by their workers' ability to visually identify plastics. We have developed a low-cost and small scale plastic identification device which enables operators in material recovery facilities to quickly and reliably identify different types of visually indistinguishable plastics... Gamifying recycling to educate consumers

Compared to the 50% target set by eu for 2023, yield from recycling including energy recovery is currently at 34% for plastics - there's still a long way to go. We believe that one of the root causes of this situation is lack of proper awareness among household consumers, who are willing to do the right thing but require more knowledge and tools.
