Cristina Stuart, Carbone4, welcomed Mission Innovation’s Net-Zero Compatibility Innovation Initiative and highlighted the need for an internationally recognised framework. She noted that the process for avoided emissions and net-zero compatibility followed the same path as the earlier work for assessing internal emissions (the greenhouse gas (GHG) protocol, Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), and ISO 14064). Stuart highlighted the differences between the EU taxonomy as a classification tool versus avoided emissions calculations that are used as an assessment tool for comparison of solutions, and presented benefits from an avoided emissions framework for helping accelerating low-carbon solution providers.
