Elvira Lutter, Programme and Research Manager, Climate and Energy Fund, Austria at EC DG R&I co-hosted workshop

Elvira Lutter highlighted the increased interest in impact assessments in research and innovation, with examples of the approach taken by Austria, as a key reason for engaging with Mission Innovation’s Net-Zero Compatible Innovations Initiative (NCI). Austria’s Flagship Region Energy project with 120 MEUR funding up to 2021, has gathered 220 project partners in three regions, with the aim to generate 100% renewable energy. Lutter described the need for an international framework providing comparative indicators for selection of a wide range of products and innovation. The Climate and Energy Fund has explorer different methodologies for assessing contributions from innovations and will work with NCI to assess contributions from Austria.
