MI Gathering in Riyadh in conjunction with G20 preparations

During the MI gathering in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, senior governmental officials and strategic observers, IEA, WEF, IRENA and RISE, met to discuss the next steps for Mission Innovation. In relation to the Net-Zero Compatible Innovation Initiative (NCI) the following issues were discussed: 1. In what international (and national) events and processes should MI engage to help accelerate the uptake of clean energy innovation with the help of the NCI? 2. What are the key steps needed to establish this in all interested MI countries – what would be needed in each country to use the NCI to assess innovations? 3. What are the pros and cons with the vision “Towards >60 gigaton of avoided emissions”? In addition Chile presented the MI-5 agenda where NCI will be featured prominently.
